By using Social Climber, you agree that we can use cookies and similar technologies in the ways described in this policy, unless you disable them via the methods described below. Note that if you choose to disable cookies, some parts of our Service may not function properly.

1. What Are Cookies and Similar Technologies?

Cookies are small text files that are placed on your device (computer, smartphone, etc.) when you visit a website. Cookies allow the website (or app) to recognize your device and store certain information about your preferences or past actions. Cookies can serve many purposes, like letting you navigate between pages efficiently, remembering your preferences, and generally improving your experience.

• First-party cookies: Cookies set by the website/app owner (in this case, Social Climber).
• Third-party cookies: Cookies set by parties other than us, usually from embedded content or services (like analytics or ads provided by someone else).

In addition to cookies, we and our partners use similar technologies such as:

• Web Beacons/Pixels: Tiny graphics (often single pixels) with a unique identifier, used to track online activity (e.g., counting visitors or email opens). They often work with cookies.
• Local Storage: Data stored in your browser (including HTML5 local storage) or app, similar to cookies but with more capacity.
• SDKs (Software Development Kits): Third-party tools integrated into mobile apps that can collect information (like mobile identifiers) and track in-app actions, functioning similarly to cookies.
• Device Identifiers: Unique identifiers provided by mobile operating systems (like Apple's IDFA or Android's Advertising ID) used for similar purposes as cookies (like recognizing your device between sessions). You can typically reset these or opt-out.

For simplicity, in this Cookie Policy, when we refer to "cookies," we mean cookies as well as these other tracking technologies. We treat all these as "cookies" in terms of giving you transparency and control.

2. How We Use Cookies

Social Climber uses cookies for a variety of reasons detailed below. Some cookies are required for technical reasons (essential or strictly necessary cookies). Other cookies enable us to track and target user interests to enhance the experience (functional or performance cookies). Cookies can also support analytics efforts and eventually advertising (though as of now, we do not have third-party advertising cookies in use).

2.1 Essential Cookies

These cookies are necessary for our Service to function properly and cannot be switched off (without seriously impairing usage). They are usually set in response to your actions, such as logging in, filling out forms, or navigating the app.

What they do:

• Authenticate and verify your identity when you log in.
• Maintain your session as you navigate the app.

• Remember essential preferences (e.g., cookie consent choices).
• Security measures (e.g., XSRF tokens).

Examples: SCSESSIONID (session ID), XSRF-TOKEN (security). These do not gather marketing information.

2.2 Functional Cookies

These cookies allow our Service to provide enhanced functionality and personalization. They may be set by us or by third-party providers whose services we have added.

What they do:

• Remember non-essential preferences and settings (e.g., app theme, language).
• Remember if you've seen onboarding tutorials.
• Store choices you make (e.g., hiding UI elements).

Examples: Remembering preferred units (km vs miles), dismissing one-time notifications. Third-party support chat or survey tools might also use these. Disabling these may affect non-essential features.

2.3 Analytics and Performance Cookies

We use analytics cookies to collect information about how users interact with our Service. This helps us understand usage patterns, identify issues, and improve features.

What they do:

• Collect data on pages/screens visited, time spent, actions taken, and error messages.
• Provide statistics on visitor numbers, app usage, demographics (if available), and referral sources.
• Help us test new features (A/B testing).
• Often set by third-party analytics services (e.g., Google Analytics via cookies on web, SDKs on mobile). We configure these not to share identifying info.

Examples: _ga, _gid (Google Analytics), climberAnalyticsId (internal). These assign an ID to your device/browser but don't directly store personal info. Data is usually aggregated. Opting out will limit our ability to improve based on your usage.

2.4 Advertising Cookies

Currently, we do not use advertising cookies on Social Climber. This section is for transparency if this changes in the future.

What they typically do (if used):

• Track browsing habits on our service (and possibly others) to understand interests.
• Limit the number of times you see an ad.
• Measure ad interactions (e.g., clicks, conversions).
• Potentially build a profile of your interests for better ad targeting.

Third-Party Advertisers: If we engage ad networks, they would set cookies or use mobile IDs to track ad performance and target ads, according to their own privacy policies.

Status: No advertising cookies are currently active. If this changes, we will update this policy and obtain necessary consents.

3. Your Choices: Managing Cookies and Tracking

You have several options to control or limit how cookies are used:

3.1 Browser and Device Settings

• Web Browser: Adjust browser settings to refuse or delete cookies, block third-party cookies, or use "Do Not Track." Guides for common browsers are provided (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge, Opera). Blocking all cookies might break some functionalities.
• Mobile App: Limit ad tracking via device settings (iOS: Settings > Privacy > Tracking; Android: Settings > Privacy > Ads or Google > Ads). Reset advertising IDs.

Clearing cookies typically does not clear local storage; you might need to clear site data in browser settings. Deleting the mobile app removes its local storage.

3.2 In-App Cookie Consent Tool

We provide a cookie consent banner/settings on our website for new visitors (EU). You can accept or reject non-essential cookies. Essential cookies are not optional. You can change your preferences later via a "Cookie Settings" link. We remember your choice via a cookie.

3.3 Analytics Opt-Out

• Google Analytics (Web): Use the opt-out browser add-on: https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout. Enabling Do Not Track or GPC might also stop GA (we configure GA to honor these where possible).
• Firebase Analytics (App): Opt-out may be available in in-app settings or by not consenting to tracking on iOS/uninstalling. We may add a "Share usage data" toggle in app settings.
• Mixpanel/Other: Opt-out info will be provided if we use them.

3.4 Consequences of Disabling Cookies

Disabling cookies may cause some features of our Service to not work correctly or smoothly (e.g., login issues, lost preferences, repeated consent requests). Essential cookies cannot be disabled via our consent tool. We aim to make the Service functional even if you decline non-essential cookies.

  • Purpose: Keeps you logged in, maintains session state. Expires on logout or inactivity.
• CSRF Token Cookie:
  • Name: XSRF-TOKEN
  • Type: First-party, Essential
  • Purpose: Security measure for forms. Expires quickly or with session.
• Cookie Consent Cookie:
  • Name: cookie_consent
  • Type: First-party, Functional
  • Purpose: Remembers your cookie preferences. Expires in 6 months - 1 year.
• Analytics Cookie (Internal):
  • Name: climberAnalyticsId
  • Type: First-party, Analytics
  • Purpose: Assigns a random ID for analytics grouping. Expires in 1 year.
